The United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR-1325) on Women, Peace and Security is an international resolution unanimously adopted on October 31st, 2000 by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). It provides for four pillars that calls for increased participation of women in all levels of decision-making roles; protection of women and girls from all forms of violence in emergency and humanitarian situations; improved interventions in the prevention of violence against women; and for the advancement of relief and recovery measures.

It considered as a first official and legal documents issued by the security council in which it calls the parties of conflict to respect women rights and support their participation in peace negotiations and in the reconstruction that follows the stage of conflict and conflict.

The resolution reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction and stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.

The (UNSCR-1325), urges all actors to increase the participation of women and incorporate gender (Male and Female) perspectives in all United Nations Peace and Security Efforts. It also calls on all parties to conflict to take special measures to protect women and girls from violence, particularly sexual abuse during armed conflicts. The resolution provides a number of important operational mandates, with implications for member states and the entities of the United Nations system.

In April 2014, Iraq was the first country in the Middle East and North Africa that adopted a National Action Plan to implement the (UNSCR-1325)
