The Role of CSOs in the implementation of WPS agenda in Iraq



On the 30th of October 2021, Alliance 1325 with the support of the Canadian Embassy in Iraq hosted a Webinar on Zoom, entitled “The Role of CSOs in the implementation of WPS agenda in Iraq”, in celebration of the 9th anniversary of Alliance 1325 and the 21st anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325. The event was attended by representatives from the KRG and the Federal Government and Civil Society Organizations. During the Webinar, Dr. Yussra Kareem, the General Director of Women Empowerment Department, gave a speech highlighting the department's various activities within the framework of the Second National Action Plan for UNSCR 1325.

Ms. Suzan Aref, President of Alliance 1325, also gave a welcoming speech in which she introduced Alliance 1325 and highlighted its role in supporting the implementation of the First and Second National Action plans for UNSCR 1325 and in empowering women in peace and security.

Moreover, a report was presented on Women’s situation and challenges in different Iraqi governorates within the WPS agenda. This was followed by a presentation on the Alliance 1325 advocacy strategy to support the implementation of the National Action Plan for UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for the years 2021-2023.

The webinar also included a panel discussion on the “The Role of CSOs in the implementation of WPS agenda in Iraq”, with the participation of the Iraqi Network for UNSCR 1325 along with representatives of the Iraqi Women Network, the Elite Network for Development and Growth and Alliance 1325. The Webinar was concluded with an interactive Q&A session.
