On Monday, December 15, 2019, Alliance 1325 Network (WPN) joined the meeting held in Baghdad to review the second national plan for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 in Iraq on women, peace and security, with the participation of a group of government and human rights activists, representatives of ministries and civil society organizations.
The opening session started with a welcoming speech from the meeting organizers, followed by a speech by the Presidential Adviser, Mr. Amir Al-Kinani, in which he pointed out the importance of developing the plan in a way that enhances the actual participation of women in decision-making positions, security-keeping and peace-building operations, followed by a speech from the representative of the United Nations for accenting Gender Equality and Women Empowerment who reflected the role played by the national team in preparing the draft of the second national plan.
The second session of the meeting included a brief presentation of the mechanism for developing and formulating the second national plan, in addition to an overview of the narrative and logical frameworks of the national plan in which the national team worked on in cooperation with some consultants and under the supervision of the representative of the United Nations for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.
The third session of the meeting was devoted to reviewing the plan according to the mechanism of the working groups, which discussed the three pillars of the plan (participation - protection - prevention) in addition to the institutional framework and the funding mechanism. for resolution 1325.
In addition to the institutional framework and the funding mechanism, and after submitting the proposals, the working groups came up with a set of observations, proposals and amendments that contribute to supporting the development of the second national plan for Resolution 1325.
